OMG dresses!!

I got to the Betsey Johnson sample sale about 15 minutes after it opened and there wasn't any line at all! By the time I left at 11:15 it was starting to get a bit picked over on the sample side of the room, but they're getting new stuff in this afternoon. The sample dresses are $30 each and the overstock dresses are 75% off. I got 8 dresses and 2 skirts for under $500! A few of them were the only one of that dress they had, but I am a ninja and happen to be the exact size Betsey makes a lot of her samples in. haHA. So if it was black, lacy and looked like something Madonna would wear in the 80s I got the last one. Plus a few hilariously impractical strapless poofy party dresses because at $30 each there's really no wrong reason to own a poofy dress made mostly out of iridescent blue taffeta. I got an amaaaaazing long pink dress with black lace & fabric overlays that matches my hair perfectly. :) There were also some fugly Betseyville purses but they weren't even tacky in a cute way, they were tacky in a not-even-worth-$25-way. There were also no mirrors so it was a bunch of semi-naked girls pulling dresses on and off while telling the stranger next to them "OMG. That is SO cute on you. Seriously, you really need that." It was great.

I imagine a group of guys in the corner watching this whole event. The mental picture of them amuses me.

Oh man. Now i'm like kicking myself for not going earlier. I was going to go around lunchtime, but it's a shipping day at my magazine so I hvae to be around. But i'm thinking of swinging by after work around 6. Do you think it's worth my while?

I asked when they were getting new stuff in and they said like around 5 or 6 (in my head that's afternoon, heh), so I would definitely still check it out! The overstock side of the room had *tons* of each dress in a variety of sizes, so I imagine a lot of those will still be in great supply by the time you get down there.

Her sample sizes (in all the dresses I looked at, at least) were mostly 6s with a some 4s here and there. :D

Dude. I totally almost bought THREE poofy party dresses. I did the jump in, run-around-and-grab-anything-cute-and-dark-and-check-them-out-in-a-corner whirlwind ninja action, weeded it down to three condidates, all of which I was going to chop up and make into other things and then.... the pushing people and the LINE OF DOOM... I left with nothing. But that's OK - I really *needed* nothing besides a purse and they were, indeed, hideously hideous, so I feel good about my decision. And anyway I still have 2 dresses from the last sale that never fit right that I need to ebay!

Oh no, you had a line of doom! It was only about 10 people long when I was there - every single person was all, "I dunno how much this is. Nahhh, I don't need it. Do I? I don't know, let me call my friend..." so it was taking forever. I was hoping they'd streamline it for later. :D

I still can't get over the ugliness of those purses. I feel like it's dangerous to have them all in one spot just in case they form a gravitational pull and attract more ugly things.

Those purses are the most heinous things I've ever seen. I am amazed that people carry them. I saw one that looked like someone vomited after eating a jar of sprinkles onto a heavily used painter's tarp and Betsey enterprisingly stitched it up into a purse so it wouldn't go to waste.

Yes and one of those monstrosities had a pocket FULL of loose coins!! I picked it up to see if they really were that hideous or my eyes were deceiving me... I had no idea what to do with the change - I wanted to bring it up front, but even to get PAST the lines would have been full of fail, so I just left it all wondering if anyone would actually pick any of those purses up at all and find this odd thing. This windfall in the eye-pain. Course I could've just made off with it, too... oh well. Damn my morals.
